Scribed in these following parchements is knowledge passed down from generation to generation, detailing the symptoms and cures of illnesses that plague Sapience. This information has been collected and transcribed for public viewing as a gift from the healers of Aetolia.

___HERBS___

Ash(often called Prickly Ash)--------
The name "prickly" is a bit of a misnomer as this is the smooth bark of the ash tree.
Insanity and other afflictions of the mind can affect anyone, from the simple minded to the most complex genius. When chaos fills the mind and simple things like moving become difficult, prickly ash bark should be administered immediately.

Bayberry--------
Growing from 3 to 8 feet, the bayberry plant's leaves are often shiny and bear spots on both sides. It's berries often have black grains crusted with greenish-white wax. The leaves are quite fragrant when rubbed. It's bitter tasting bark is reddish in colour.
Bayberry does not cure afflictions. It is often used as a preventative measure. It causes blindness in whoever ingests it. It is often used as a preventative measure from transfixation.

Bellwort--------
The stems of the yellow, pitcher shaped Bellwort flower are 8-20 inches tall and pass right through the base of each leaf, making this plant easy to identify even without flowers. The flowers point down and have 3 yellow petals.
Afflictions that induce feelings of excessive love, compassion or altruism are cured by having the patient ingest a bellwort flower.

Bloodroot--------
Bloodroot has a lovely white flower and produces only a single leaf and a flowering scape about 6 inches high. When the leaf first appears it is wrapped around the flower bud and is a mauve colour with streaks of yellow running up it. It is covered with a downy substance. After flowering the leaves increase in size, the underside paler showing prominent veins. The white flower is wax-like with golden stamens.
Cures: Paralysis, slickness
When the patient's muscles contract and won't loosen up, it is likely they have been afflicted by paralysis. If the patient's skin becomes slippery and gooey, salves won't cease to adhere to the skin, reducing the effectiveness. Bloodroot relaxes the patient's muscles and allows your skin to return to its natural smoothness, scaliness, or furriness.
Only the leaf section should be ingested.

Cohosh--------
Cohosh is a blackish root. It emits a foul odour and tastes even worse.
Cohosh can be taken as a preventative measure against being put to sleep. It stimulates the mind to a point where the patient cannot go to sleep. It is useful against hourglass tattoos and the delphinium venom.
It is a preventative measure and does not cure afflictions after the fact.

Goldenseal--------
Goldenseal has a thick, yellow rootstock which sends up an erect hairy stem about 1 foot in height which branches near the top, one branch bearing a large leaf and another a smaller leaf and a flower.
Cures: Stupidity,dizziness,digitalis,epilepsy and impatience The root of the goldenseal plant should be ingested to soothe afflictions that cause your body and mind to cease listening to each other. If the patient's body will not react in the way he or she wishes to, it is likely that goldenseal is needed.

Ginseng--------
It is a smooth herb, with a large, fleshy, very slow-growing root, 2 to 3 inches in length and from 1/2 to 1 inch in thickness. At the lower end of this straight portion, there is a narrower continuation, turned obliquely outward in the opposite direction and a very small branch is occasionally borne in the fork between the two.
Cures: Haemophilia,darkshade(sun allergy),lethargy,vomiting,scytherus venom,addiction
Ginseng cures maladies of the stomach, skin and blood. The root of the plant is ingested.

Kelp--------
Kelp is a green plant found growing in aquatic areas.
Cures: Clumsiness,weakness,asthma,sensitivity,hypochondria
Afflictions which cause weakness of your body constitution. An affliction such as asthma often plagues the patient with difficulty in breathing and a tightening sensation in your lungs. Kelp is administered orally.

Kola--------
The famous Kola nut is a round, brown nut. A small indentation runs down one side of it.
The kola nut allows the patient to awake immediately from sleep without grogginess. It cures no affliction but is useful when one needs to be alert quickly after attempting to wake up.

Lobelia--------
The lobelia plant usually grows 1 to 2 feet high. Its flower is usually purplish in colour.
Cures: Beserking,recklessness,masochism,agoraphobia,
loneliness,vertigo,claustrophobia
If the patient is exhibiting symptoms of a phobia or pathos, have them ingest the lobelia seed immediately.

Moss--------
Irid moss is a wonder to behold before it is picked. It's purple hues become incandescent in the dark. However, after harvesting, the moss ceases to glow.
Sometimes boar and moon tattoos, as well as health and mana elixirs, take too long to help you recover your health and mana. Chew on some moss to replenish both health and mana.

Myrrh--------
The myrrh bush does not grow more than 9 feet in height, but they are of sturdy build, with knotted branches, and branchlets that stand out at right-angles, ending in a sharp spine. A resin flows from ducts in the bark when the bark is wounded, or from natural fissures. From this resin, myrrh gum is made.
Learning skills is the only way one will progress in their abilities.
Eating Myrrh Gum will permit you to speed this process up by allowing one to learn 10 lessons at a time, and even gain a bit more knowledge than normally gained without the gum.

Sileris--------
The sileris berry is a purplish-red berry. It's juice can be used to make a waxy substance.
The fangs of Shadowsnakes can be used to inject poison into your blood.
Such an attack can be repelled by applying the juice of this berry, which will form into a waxy coating around your body. It does not cure any afflictions.

Skullcap--------
A slightly yellow flower that is oddly shaped like a pitcher.
Smoking the skullcap flower has a magical effect. It will raise an aura that will deflect weapons back upon their wielder. Also, you can link your mind with the Thoth, the UnderGod by eating this herb to see when death claims its victims. It does not cure any afflictions.

Slippery Elm--------
Slippery elm is actually the pulpy inner bark of the elm tree. It has a bad taste and foul smell.
Cures: Hellsight,aeon,curse,deadening
When a patient is cursed in some way, it is best to have the patient smoke some slippery elm.

Valerian--------
The valerian plant consists of a single stem which rises to 3 or 4 feet.
It's flower is usually pinkish or flesh coloured. The leaves are dark green and oval shaped.
Cures: Slickness,disfigurement,hypochondria
The leaves of this plant should be smoked for their medicinal value. It cures disparate ailments, each listed above.

__ELIXIRS AND SALVES__

Caloric--------
The caloric salve heats up the skin and should be applied to patients who are shivering constantly.

Epidermal--------
If the idea of eating or drinking is suddenly repulsive to a patient, apply an epidermal salve. It also cures blindness.

Immunity--------
The venom Voyria is said to be of the most deadliest. If a patient experiences symptoms of sudden coughing with black colored fluid and tissue, or trembling legs and yellow jaundice beginning to creep through his or her increasingly pale features, quickly get him or her to drink an immunity elixir.

Mending--------
Broken or shriveled limbs should be healed by applying this salve to the affected limb. This salve also puts out any patient who is engulfed in flames.

Restoration--------
If a limb or extremity is damaged beyond repair by ordinary means, apply restoration salve should be applied to the extremity immediately.

Causes stupidity
Remedy: Goldenseal

Symptom:
Hmmmmm. Why is everything so difficult to figure out?

Left untreated, patient will not be able to perform many functions properly, causing them to take actions other than those they wish to take.

CAMUS* --------

Inflicts medium damage
No remedy

Symptom:
You scream out in agony as a vicious venom tears through your body.

COLOCASIA--------

Causes blindness/deafness
Remedy: Epidermal salve

Symptom:
You blink for a moment, then instantly, all about you is darkness. You are blind (see OLEANDER)

CURARE--------

Causes paralysis
Remedy: Bloodroot

Symptom:
A prickly stinging overwhelms your body, fading away into numbness.
Your muscles stiffen and lock
Your state of paralysis
Your limbs stiffen
"Frustratingly, your body won't respond to your call to action."
During paralysis you can't attack or move, but you can still eat herbs and the like.

DARKSHADE--------

Causes allergy to sunlight(patient will be severly damaged by sunlight) Remedy: Ginseng

Symptom:
"You feel your allergy to the sun going into temporary remission" (when indoors)
"Your vision is flooded with light, and your face suddenly reddens" (when outdoors)

DELPHINIUM--------
Causes unconsciousness/sleep

Remedy: Patient must attempt to wake himself or herself up

DIGITALIS--------

Causes shyness
Remedy: Goldenseal

Symptom: "You look about yourself nervously."

EPSETH--------
Shrivels legs of victim

Remedy: Mending salve

Symptom: "You stumble slightly as your right/left leg shrivels into a useless appendage."

Shrivels arms

Symptom:
"You watch in horror as your right/left arm shrivels up and becomes useless."

EUPHORBIA--------

Causes Stomach sickness and vomiting
Remedy: Ginseng

Symptom: A sense of extreme nausea washes over you.
"You cannot contain the convulsions in your stomach any longer and double over, retching violently.

EURYPTERIA--------

Causes heroism/recklessness
Remedy: Lobelia

Symptom:
"You realize that your heroic actions can no longer continue unnoticed, and you take it upon yourself to rectify the situation."

GECKO--------

Causes slickness
Remedy: Bloodroot or Valerian

Symptom:
"With disgust, you note that your sweat glands begin to rapidly secrete a foul, oily substance."

Induces asthma

There is a tightening sensation in your lungs suddenly.

LARKSPUR--------

Causes dizziness

Symptom:
"Your mind swims as dizziness overtakes you."

Gives a random affliction
Remedy: Use appropriate cure for the affliction

MONKSHOOD--------

Causes disfigurement
Remedy: Valerian

Symptom:
You feel ugliness radiating from you.

OCULUS--------

Removes blindness

OLEANDER--------

Causes Blindness/Deafness
Remedy: Epidermal salve applied to the head

Symptom:
You blink for a moment, then instantly, all about you is darkness.
You are blind.
Notes: If you are blinded by Oleander, you must apply the epidermal salve to the patient's head or he or she will not regain their vision.

PREFARAR--------

Causes sensitivity
Remedy: Kelp

Symptom: A prickly, stinging sensation spreads through your body.

You swoon as you suffer a toxic relapse.

SLIKE--------

Induces anorexia
Remedy: Epidermal salve applied to body of patient

SUMAC* --------

Inflicts Minor Damage Remedy: Healing

VARDRAX--------

Drains essence from necromancers
There is no remedy for this venom

VERNALIUS--------

Causes weakness
Remedy: Kelp

Symptom: "Your limbs grow heavy and you groan feebly."

VOYRIA--------

Causes death
Remedy: Immunity elixir

Symptom: "You begin feeling slightly flushed."
Blood begins to slowly drip from your nose.
"You cough suddenly, expelling black fluid with bits of what looks to be tissue suspended in it."

"Your legs tremble slightly as a yellow jaundice begins to creep through your now-pale features."

"The dark void of terror fills your mind as, horribly, blood beings to seep out of every pore on your body."

Notes: Voyria acts fast-you must imbibe an immunity elixir immediately!
XENTIO--------

Causes clumsiness
Remedy: Kelp

Symptom:
"You gasp as you feel your fine-tuned reflexes disappear into a haze of confusion."

AEON--------

Usually afflicted on a patient through the use of tarot. Causes a one second lag on all commands entered by patient.

Remedy: Elm (smoked)

AGORAPHOBIA--------

This phobia gives a patient intense bouts of fear when outdoors.

Terror decends upon you and your head swims - you must find shelter!
Remedy: Lobelia (eaten)

ALTRUISM--------

Remedy: Bellwort (eaten)

AMNESIA--------

Causes the patient to suffer a momentary lapse in memory. It usually cancels the next command he or she enters.

Remedy: None

ANIMALS--------

Prevents those with metamorphosis from using their morphing skills.
Remedy: Ginseng (eaten)

ANOREXIA--------

A patient afflicted by anorexia will be unable to consume any substance, including herbs or elixirs.
Remedy: Epidermal salve (apply)

Symptom:
The idea of eating or drinking is suddenly repulsive to you.
The thought of food revolts you all of a sudden.

Prevents patient from smoking any substance. Moving too quickly may cause patient to take damage.

Symptom:

BERSERKING--------

BLINDNESS--------

Patient cannot see.
Remedy: Epidermal salve (apply)

Symptom:

BROKEN LIMBS--------

Impairs patient's ability to wield weapons/shields or move. Caused by shriveling or breaking the limb.
Remedy: Mending salve (apply)

Symptom:
"You stumble slightly as your right/left leg shrivels into a useless appendage."

"You watch in horror as your right/left arm shrivels up and becomes useless."

SEVERELY DAMAGED LIMBS OR BODY PARTS--------

Remedy: Restoration salve (apply)

Symptom:
leg snaps in two
"beyond repair by ordinary means"

Notes: You may need to apply a mending salve after to full heal.

CHILL--------

Patient suffers from constant shivering. Will reduce patient's drink health to zero if left untreated.
Remedy: Caloric salve (apply)

CLAUSTROPHOBIA--------

Patient suffers uncontrollable fear when indoors.
Remedy: Lobelia (eaten)

Symptom:
The walls close in to suffocate you-you must escape!

CLUMSINESS--------

Causes patient to lose all sense of coordination and gives a significant chance of missing with some physical attacks.
Remedy: Kelp (eaten)

Symptom:
"You gasp as you feel your fine-tuned reflexes disappear into a haze of confusion."

CONCUSSION--------

Patient will suffer amnesia every few seconds.
Remedy: None

CONFUSION--------

Confusion causes some attacks to misfire, and prevents concentration.
Remedy: Prickly ash (eaten)

Symptom:
Your mind feels suddenly confused and jumbled.

CURSE--------

Remedy: Elm (smoked)

DARKSHADE--------

Causes extreme allergy to the sun in patient. He or she will start taking damage if exposed to sunlight.
Remedy: Ginseng (eaten)

Symptom:
"You feel your allergy to the sun going into temporary remission." (when indoors, or when the sun goes down)
Your vision is flooded with light, and your face suddenly reddens (when outdoors in sunlight)

This affliction drastically decreases the amount of time it takes for a monk to mind lock the patient.

DEAFNESS--------

Prevents patient from hearing what others say, shout or yell.

DEMENTIA--------

Causes patient to see random rooms and room descriptions whenever they look or move.
Remedy: Prickly ash (eaten)

Symptom:
"You look about yourself, frenziedly, wild-eyed."

DISFIGUREMENT--------

Causes patients entities to attack patient.
Remedy: Valerian (smoked)

Symptom:
You feel ugliness radiating from you.

Notes: To remedy this, order entities passive then smoke valerian.

DIZZINESS--------

Patient may walk in a random direction when they move.
Remedy: Goldenseal (eaten)

Symptom:
"Your mind swims as dizziness overtakes you."

EPILEPSY--------

Patient suffers severe seizures and foams at the mouth.
Remedy: Goldenseal (eaten)

Symptom:
"Your limbs begin to jerk and shake uncontrollably, and you begin to foam at the mouth"

A wave of utter panic washes over you.
Strange terrifying voices begin to whisper through your mind.

GENEROSITY--------

HAEMOPHILIA--------

Remedy: Ginseng (eaten)

HALLUCINATIONS--------

Patient will see bizarre events all around him or her.
Remedy: Prickly ash (eaten)

HELLSIGHT--------

Hellsight causes several different afflictions to occur in rapid succession.
Remedy: Elm (smoked)

HEROISM--------

Patient cannot see his or her true hitpoints when affected.
Remedy: Lobelia (eaten)

Symptom:
"You realize that your heroic actions can no longer continue unnoticed, and you take it upon yourself to rectify the situation."

IMPATIENCE--------

Remedy: Goldenseal (eaten)

Symptom:
You shuffle your feet noisily, suddenly bored.

Patients suffering from insomnia are unable to go to sleep because their minds are too active.
Remedy: Goldenseal (eaten)

Symptom:
You suddenly feel incapable of falling asleep.

JUSTICE--------

Remedy: Bellwort (eaten)

LONELINESS--------

Remedy: Lobelia (eaten)

LOVERS EFFECT--------

Remedy: Bellwort (eaten)

MASOCHISM--------

The patient will beat himself or herself relentlessly.
Remedy: Lobelia (eaten)

Symptom:
An odd sensation descends upon you.
With the heel of your palm, you smack yourself upside the head.

MERCY--------

This affliction leaves the patient unable to deliver killing blows.
Remedy: Bellwort

MIMICRY--------

Remedy: Elm (smoked)

PACIFISM--------

The patient will be incapable of taking aggressive actions.
Remedy: Bellwort (eaten)

Symptom:
A sense of deep inner calm descends on you.

PARALYSIS--------

Immobilizes the patient.
Remedy: Bloodroot (eaten)

Symptom:
A prickly stinging overwhelms your body, fading away into numbness.
Your muscles stiffen and lock
"Frustratingly, your body won't respond to your call to action."

Symptom: None may stand in your way! You are invincible!
Notes: You are feeling so heroic that you care no longer for your own safety.

SCYTHERUS--------

Thin blood is symptom of being injected by scytherus. It causes toxic relapses. See the venoms section for more info.
Remedy: Ginseng (eaten)

Symptom: "You swoon as you suffer a toxic relapse."

SENSITIVITY--------

Causes attacks on patient to do a great deal of extra damage.
Remedy: Kelp (eaten)

Symptom: "A prickly, stinging sensation spreads through your body."
SHIVERING--------

Stupidity prevents a patient from doing what they truly intend.
Remedy: Goldenseal (eaten)

Symptom:
"Hmmmmm. Why is everything so difficult to figure out?"
Your mind feels somewhat slower and more plodding.

WEAKNESS--------

Weakness causes a patient to do less physical damage with their attacks.
Remedy: Kelp (eaten)

Symptom:
"Your limbs grow heavy and you groan feebly"

VERTIGO--------

Causes patient to become unable to fly or go up in general.
Remedy: Lobelia (eaten)

Symptom: "You are gripped with fear- you cannot leave the ground."

Insanity and other afflictions of the mind can affect anyone, from the simple minded to the most complex genius. When chaos fills the mind and simple things like moving become difficult, prickly ash bark should be administered immediately. Bayberry-------- Growing from 3 to 8 feet, the bayberry plant's leaves are often shiny and bear spots on both sides. It's berries often have black grains crusted with greenish-white wax. The leaves are quite fragrant when rubbed. It's bitter tasting bark is reddish in colour. Bayberry does not cure afflictions. It is often used as a preventative measure. It causes blindness in whoever ingests it. It is often used as a preventative measure from transfixation. Bellwort-------- The stems of the yellow, pitcher shaped Bellwort flower are 8-20 inches tall and pass right through the base of each leaf, making this plant easy to identify even without flowers. The flowers point down and have 3 yellow petals. Afflictions that induce feelings of excessive love, compassion or altruism are cured by having the patient ingest a bellwort flower. Bloodroot-------- Bloodroot has a lovely white flower and produces only a single leaf and a flowering scape about 6 inches high. When the leaf first appears it is wrapped around the flower bud and is a mauve colour with streaks of yellow running up it. It is covered with a downy substance. After flowering the leaves increase in size, the underside paler showing prominent veins. The white flower is wax-like with golden stamens. Cures: Paralysis, slickness When the patient's muscles contract and won't loosen up, it is likely they have been afflicted by paralysis. If the patient's skin becomes slippery and gooey, salves won't cease to adhere to the skin, reducing the effectiveness. Bloodroot relaxes the patient's muscles and allows your skin to return to its natural smoothness, scaliness, or furriness. Only the leaf section should be ingested. Cohosh-------- Cohosh is a blackish root. It emits a foul odour and tastes even worse. Cohosh can be taken as a preventative measure against being put to sleep. It stimulates the mind to a point where the patient cannot go to sleep. It is useful against hourglass tattoos and the delphinium venom. It is a preventative measure and does not cure afflictions after the fact. Goldenseal-------- Goldenseal has a thick, yellow rootstock which sends up an erect hairy stem about 1 foot in height which branches near the top, one branch bearing a large leaf and another a smaller leaf and a flower. Cures: Stupidity,dizziness,digitalis,epilepsy and impatience The root of the goldenseal plant should be ingested to soothe afflictions that cause your body and mind to cease listening to each other. If the patient's body will not react in the way he or she wishes to, it is likely that goldenseal is needed. Ginseng-------- It is a smooth herb, with a large, fleshy, very slow-growing root, 2 to 3 inches in length and from 1/2 to 1 inch in thickness. At the lower end of this straight portion, there is a narrower continuation, turned obliquely outward in the opposite direction and a very small branch is occasionally borne in the fork between the two. Cures: Haemophilia,darkshade(sun allergy),lethargy,vomiting,scytherus venom,addiction Ginseng cures maladies of the stomach, skin and blood. The root of the plant is ingested. Kelp-------- Kelp is a green plant found growing in aquatic areas. Cures: Clumsiness,weakness,asthma,sensitivity,hypochondria Afflictions which cause weakness of your body constitution. An affliction such as asthma often plagues the patient with difficulty in breathing and a tightening sensation in your lungs. Kelp is administered orally. Kola-------- The famous Kola nut is a round, brown nut. A small indentation runs down one side of it. The kola nut allows the patient to awake immediately from sleep without grogginess. It cures no affliction but is useful when one needs to be alert quickly after attempting to wake up. Its flower is usually purplish in colour. Cures: Beserking,recklessness,masochism,agoraphobia, loneliness,vertigo,claustrophobia If the patient is exhibiting symptoms of a phobia or pathos, have them ingest the lobelia seed immediately. Moss-------- Irid moss is a wonder to behold before it is picked. It's purple hues become incandescent in the dark. However, after harvesting, the moss ceases to glow. Sometimes boar and moon tattoos, as well as health and mana elixirs, take too long to help you recover your health and mana. Chew on some moss to replenish both health and mana. Myrrh-------- The myrrh bush does not grow more than 9 feet in height, but they are of sturdy build, with knotted branches, and branchlets that stand out at right-angles, ending in a sharp spine. A resin flows from ducts in the bark when the bark is wounded, or from natural fissures. From this resin, myrrh gum is made. Learning skills is the only way one will progress in their abilities. Eating Myrrh Gum will permit you to speed this process up by allowing one to learn 10 lessons at a time, and even gain a bit more knowledge than normally gained without the gum. It's juice can be used to make a waxy substance. The fangs of Shadowsnakes can be used to inject poison into your blood. Such an attack can be repelled by applying the juice of this berry, which will form into a waxy coating around your body. It does not cure any afflictions. Skullcap-------- A slightly yellow flower that is oddly shaped like a pitcher. Smoking the skullcap flower has a magical effect. It will raise an aura that will deflect weapons back upon their wielder. Also, you can link your mind with the Thoth, the UnderGod by eating this herb to see when death claims its victims. It does not cure any afflictions. Slippery Elm-------- Slippery elm is actually the pulpy inner bark of the elm tree. It has a bad taste and foul smell. Cures: Hellsight,aeon,curse,deadening When a patient is cursed in some way, it is best to have the patient smoke some slippery elm. Valerian-------- The valerian plant consists of a single stem which rises to 3 or 4 feet. It's flower is usually pinkish or flesh coloured. The leaves are dark green and oval shaped. Cures: Slickness,disfigurement,hypochondria The leaves of this plant should be smoked for their medicinal value. It cures disparate ailments, each listed above. Epidermal-------- If the idea of eating or drinking is suddenly repulsive to a patient, apply an epidermal salve. It also cures blindness. Immunity-------- The venom Voyria is said to be of the most deadliest. If a patient experiences symptoms of sudden coughing with black colored fluid and tissue, or trembling legs and yellow jaundice beginning to creep through his or her increasingly pale features, quickly get him or her to drink an immunity elixir. Mending-------- Broken or shriveled limbs should be healed by applying this salve to the affected limb. This salve also puts out any patient who is engulfed in flames. Restoration-------- If a limb or extremity is damaged beyond repair by ordinary means, apply restoration salve should be applied to the extremity immediately.
