Arios 21st, 123 MA:
A Hero's Stand
Now tales told of days of old, are commonplace if true,
they come from bards who near and far, can hold a jolly tune.
All the tales ever heard are those that bring good cheer,
where heroes face great victories, and slay the things we fear.
And of the tales that I regale, no victory was so sweet,
than he who fought for a cause and stood despite defeat.
Shall it start in traditional part, once upon a time?
or shall I say just one day and begin from there this rhyme? Lets just say that one day, a man who knew his heart,
took to light, both honor and might if only to do his part.
He claimed a place in the face, of darkness and despair,
he doth defend to the end the shrines he tends with care.
This man not one, was the son of a paladin who in faith,
gave of his might, for the light in the strength of his blade.
The paladin boy filled with joy, fed honor all his life,
joined the cause against all odds, to mend the wrongs to right.
I must inject to protect, the hero that's yet to be,
for all the things he might bring, his courage was the key.
For cowardice not can't be fought, it's best to let it depart, but pride and honor lingers longer, for those brave of heart.
Now once more let us explore, our hero's singular plight,
as he grew the boy knew, the man would have to fight.
"Fear is lost I know the cost!" his words rang across the lands.
And I shall hail and prevail, for my lord I shall defend!
He kept his word or so it's heard, he'll one day be a savior, he did as told, fought brave and bold under Arion's favor.
Thus time dispense with pretense and Hashan fell from elation, the shrine inside stayed alive, despite the devastation.
Every day without delay the paladin took route to Hashan,
to tend the shrine of his divine and assure it's succession.
He offered beast he did defeat by putting up defenses,
he forbid all ill with his will, to protect Arion's essence.
Thus it came a day of pain, the shrine attacked within,
the fate of five to stay alive, rested on the paladin.
They made a wall by standing tall, five wide abreast,
then raised their blades bound to slay, those who caused unrest.
Raised to fight this wall of might, their cry rang loud and clear, death to he is an enemy, and would bring destruction here!
The paladin one in the some, determined he took his stance,
None will pass, I promise that, I am my Lords defense!
He raised his blade and turned to face, the trolls in all their might, determined mind strength to find, they battled into night.
The blood ran free and took out three, but two pulled tight that wall, they swore in vain one would remain, to protect the shrine from fall.
The clang of metal rang and echoed out with the sound,
flesh flayed upon the blade, as another hit the ground.
Horrid end for the dead, but no victory yet to claim,
for one was left of the rest, to slay or become the slain.
Now I'm not sure as it were, just how it all came about,
but last it's said from the paladin, was a mighty shout.
"Strength and honor, lingers longer, courage defeats the coward, disciplined self defeats all else, for my lord of Valor!"
He raised his sword to the overlord, and struck a mighty blow, the troll struck back with an attack, and brought the paladin low.
On his knees he begged no release, but spoke with fire in his eyes, "Of defeat I've my victory!" and claimed his one surprise.
He began to pull from the troll, then quickly drove ahead,
the fisted shrine was in line, and he impaled the troll on it.
Of his will and his skill, it was the shrine that did defeat, by standing strong and living long, he found his victory.
Of iron fist it can't be missed, the shrine to Arion of Valor, the Lord of might who fights for right and dispenses with the coward.
The paladin who long ensued by only his force of will,
heard his name become proclaimed, and is remembered even still.

Arios 23rd, 123 MA:
A Hero Of Valor
What is a hero? Someone of brawn and might of sword, who wields his steely blade with a skill mastered, unmatched and flawless? Is it not than, that just any man who holds a blade in hand deftly might be defined as such, a gift in the reward of a title that marks him for what he is, a hero?
I pondered the title with a reflection that gave little pause. It tormented me, a hero, someone with such skill that I could not even bask in the shadow of their image. One whose blade bore the brunt of his might, who deftly defended in the face of all opposition, who could, with a single blow, become a hero. The question of what a hero was drove me unto far out reaches, beyond the embrace of guild, beyond the mere four walls that contain it's heart, deep into the center of self. For in the journey, is that not where the true hero lies? In the center of every self a hero, just waiting to be born.
The four pillars of valor define the hero, the true hero and not he who bears the title as mere reward for a swift blade and steady hand. Nay, throughout the journey for which every follower of Valor must partake, I have found the true hero lies not within the blade, but in the center of the one who wields it.
Each pillar bears the burden of it's own weight, equally balanced, the four uphold the meaning of Valor.

Strength
Strength - The means by which one's brawn bears the burden of blade or something more? Is it in truth, the strength of ones body to stand defiant in the face of opposition, or does it run deeper then a mere shell? The essence of strength finds it's source of power in the will of those whom bear it. It takes strength to stand strong against opposition, whether in adversity or victory. Strength of self to embolden the body with discipline, to know in discipline the action to take, to seek the courage in which to face that decision, and the honor by which to uphold it, despite the end.
The hero holds the strength of self within the understanding of who and what he is, he has no misconceptions and seeks enlightenment for ignorance to further strengthen what he has to face. The strength of a hero comes within his skill to wield his blade and yet it is not about brawn, though it assists. It is about his will, for what hero ever raised blade to defend without the strength of will to know why that blade is raised, wielded and made to defend or attack, for the might of one's divine.

Discipline
Discipline - Of the four pillars, discipline is one of the hardest and most important to embrace, it requires more then just a heavy hand to lead, but a heavy hand to follow as well. What mortal has ever taken well to the authority enforced by a plan of discipline, then again, of which discipline is valor? Is it the rules issued by superiors to follow, or the goals and expectations one sets of themselves? Discipline as a pillar stands tall and erect in the second placement of the four pillars, burdening it's weight with the devotion that can only come of a self disciplined whole. No hero of leniency was able to walk to victory or defeat and come from it standing, whole and intact.
Discipline is not some horde of rules hung drearily over the head, but rules and principles by which one guides themselves. Discipline is in the decisions they make, the actions they take and the focus upon which to stand by them, in support of them for not merely their benefit. The focused mind, disciplined and balanced is able to better make decisions with ones strength, to further courage and honor upon the hero. A hero without discipline is liable toward misuse, abuse and error of his strength when forced into judgement and precarious situations.
Discipline enables the hero to maintain his standing and sense of self despite any conflicts presented him. No hero will stray from his devotion if his strength of heart is balanced by his discipline of mind and presented with courage and honor.

Courage
Courage - Ones ability to stand brave before feats and accomplishments, or is there more to it then merely standing before the moments task? It takes courage to admit to many things, courage to face our true selves, courage to acknowledge and grow from the knowledge obtained. There is nothing of courage, if not in facing what we really and truly are, if we cannot accept that, what can we do to face the same in our opponent? Fear is human, we are not the divine, the unexplained fascination of the divine is immense in proportion and beyond the reach of a mortal hero.
To be mortal is to feel. The intensity of feeling inspires fear, fear which does no more then heighten the sense of us who would be otherwise, blinded by our illusions. It implies living, and that we sacrifice for the sake of our divinity without cause for hesitation despite any and all fears.
This makes us the hero, that despite the odds against mortal bound beings, we strive to pull ahead with courage to face those decisions we must make with discipline and strength. Strength to make those decisions with the feelings of mortality to assist and not hinder our dedications to the paths we walk, devoutly. Courage to bravely maintain this path comes from that strength, that enlightenment that is empowered in the discipline we force upon our mortal beings to be able to honorably face ourselves, our foes and allies with courage.
Without the courage to face ourselves, we are nothing but cowards in armor. The true hero finds courage to acknowledge all things, even if it should come in error or defeat, the hero learns from the effort and bolsters his courage to further face adversity in the future. He does not waver in the strength of his will, through the guidance of his disciplined self, he finds courage in himself to face all, with honor.

Honor
Honor - Honor is valor, it is the epitome of what a hero is, what path he has chosen to walk and where he deems to go with it. A sense of honor does not fall upon a hero with merely the weights of presentation, but it is the embodiment of his devotion and dedication, his presence. Honor is an invisible armor that protects and represents the wearer with his emblem of loyalty proudly displayed. The hero with honor will represent himself and his divine with the utmost respect, despite the individual before him, be he enemy or friend. A hero does not differentiate his honor between those who are friends and those who are foe, it is apart of who and what he is, a sense of being, a presence of self that is at once apparent in the combined whole of valor.
The presence of honor is that which triggers ones strength, discipline and courage, for it takes a great deal to face your enemy with valor and not contempt, or arrogance. Honor is not weighted, once it truly has been accepted as apart of the hero, it is light as a feather and stronger then any metal or blade you may wield. Enhanced with the strength of heart, discipline of mind and the courage to acknowledge and represent all the above, brings about the honor of a hero.

Conclusion
In conclusion, valor defines the hero, it is not the title he bears, not in his skill upon the battle field, and not in the victories he accumulates, but in the discovered sense of self. A hero is faced and challenged with the greatest of possibilities, not only to understand valor, but to live it. A hero will face many odds and all adversity, and despite the ending victory or defeat, will remain a hero in the eyes of those he serves and protects. For a hero bears no armor or blade to obtain that position, he does not need to wield deftly with skill to obtain victory, but expresses himself in the way he chooses to serve, with strength, discipline, courage and honor as the herald for a hero of valor.
