Someone who didn't speak english as their first language told Stella to stop talking funny because he found it hard to understand her...and yet Stella's first language isn't english, either.  *huff* Made me angry.  So I told her to be stubborn, like Moot, and continue talking the way she had been.

As I recall Moot's English..

Moot may be english, but he talks in third person, amoung other things, in the realms.  And he's been ragged on it many times for it. (I think there was even a public post on it)  But he keeps speaking that way, for which I applaud him.

Yeah...try working with an accent or a speech impediment...my gods you get harped on so much, and all the esteems...so much more than you should get. It really is stupid the amount of time people put into a character or something to get them to speak and all they do is get overworshiped for it or bombarded for how much of a 'poser' you are, and in some cases it is just people trying to get esteem, I mean look at all the Elowenclones, not only on Aetolia but on Achaea and Imperian, that all popped up just because they thought they could be cool and wanted attention. I regret so much I ever thought of that, really I do, because I wanted to have fun doing all the work and all I got instead was 1000 reasons to never do it again with only like...10 reasons why I want to do retry.

The only variation in my speech pattern that I make between characters is related to personality.  I have one really somber character who won't use words like 'woot' or 'yay' (won't even smile, actually), and tends to use longer words, as well.  That's as far as I go, however.  Anything more I not only tend to forget, but it annoys me to have to remember.

I actually had a Sentinel alt who was real serious and hardly talked except to his mentor (Nightshadow.) Nightshadow's husband, Yreogh and Hatake... Funny thing is I don't think Yreogh or Hatake caught on it was me playing that character...

Problem is... Trying to play a serious Sentinel is really hard when you've got over-friendly novices hitting on that character on the odd occasion or just being over-friendly altogether.

Shame, really... I enjoyed the roleplay that I had going for him and for something like unrealistically people so friendly to someone they don't know the first thing about... It's something I wish I didn't have to do, but the majority of the people in the Sentinels are far too... for lack of a better word... Snuggly..

Moot is a Horkval.

Anyway...

All my characters speak differently, but use...more archaic word structure and usage.

Oh god, I know what you mean. I had a Sentinel alt who I HAD to take Teradrim. The Sentinels are so... so... leap-over-the-table-and-strangle-able.

My chars all behave the same, give or take. Some are more serious, others not. I don't RP. Everything Avian does, I'd do. 'Cept maul mountain lions and elephants and stuff. I'd never do that IRL.

...stop giving me that look.

Isn't a serious sentinel a contradiction in terms?

I had a sentinel alt ONCE, way back when I was determined to make temporary characters in all the guilds just so I'd know a bit about them...it lasted even less time than my priest alt, who I suicided after two months out of boredom. (priests were far too much like the paladins, only not as interesting, for me to tolerate...now, though, I wish I'd kept that character)
