Since GR comes from your peers, if you don't spend lots of time with guildmates, it's hard to come by.
As one of the few active Novice Aides in the Sentinels, I spend most of my time with cubs.  Doing intros, walking tests, giving classes, etc.  And now that I'm a mentor, I spend more time with my cubs.  I got one because I said something clever and touching and meaningful to someone, I don't remember what I said, but I got GF'ed for it.

And when I did a treasure hunt for our cubs, I got GF'd for running a moral event while the Sec of Moral was gone.  The next year, however,  I did the same thing, only on a broader scope.  The first one I did was only in Ithmia, whereas the second was over most of Sapience.  A couple of novices told me they had a lot of fun.  That was my reward, and that made it worth doing.
Bah, enough of my ranting.

Oh, heck, I don't know how it is for other guilds, but for Paladins it is hard as hell to gain any GF, and if you get those, they are from low GR people. I think I got like 10 GFs so far and I'm still GR4 .. and it seems forging for the guild shop it is not considered as helping the guild as much as winning every spar you get *snicker*.

I think in all of the time I've been around I've had four GFs. And when I push myself really hard for the guild, or am really trying to work something out for the guild... Sometimes it seems like the guild isn't actually supporting your actions.

And yeah, it is hard as hell to get Gfs. I personally think it's because all of our secretaries and people able to GF aren't too aware of what's going on around them because they do their work then leave. Or say nothing at all... All I doo is make suggestions for Guildfavours to anyone who can, if I've witnessed something I deem worth a GF I'll ask the person is given it.

So it's not entirely the fault of those who can GF, but also those who are observant and have a hand in the lives of other guild members.

Nah, the reason the Paladins don't hand out GFs is they're sick and tired of people gaining class and then quitting the guild.  Of course, they don't stop to think that that might have something to do with a problem in the guild and maybe they should do something to fix it. *sigh*

Yeah, last time I got GFed was from Kiyotan for...something silly.  That was following another GF from him, the month before, for trying to run a tournament. (which fell through...stupid pallys not participating)

I know a long time ago, pallys weren't so hard about giving out their GFs.  In fact, several people (me included) were asked to stop GFing for silly reasons like 'blah is a good paladin who has followed the ideals of the guild all their life' etc. etc.  Because that was considered a silly reason.  I don't mean that in a bad way...it's just, every single day, the guild logs had one or more GF.  It was...nice.

Now, the only guild that's that loose with it's GFs is the Magi.  And that's because, if you leave their guild, two of your skills are suddenly useless. *sigh*

I wish guilds would stop being paranoid about people using them for class and then quitting.  You really can't prevent such a thing, after all.  The guild leaders just need to view it as a challenge that they need to overcome, by making the guild attractive enough that no one's going to leave...or just adopting all the new people into their families so they feel obliged to stay, in the case of the Sentinels. *cough*

I believe the way the Cabalists work is you get 1gf per sect rank, one for completing probates, one for holding a lecture or event/quiz/contest etc. one for winning a event/quiz/contest, one for doing alot on a project, 2 for completing a project, umm what else was I told. You get to GR5 when you become a secretary, thats the same in all guilds really, oh and you get one for having a book of yours placed in the guild library. Think thats all of it. I have never been a cabalist but I am told that it can be really hard or really easy depending on who your friends are and how much extra work you do when your not asked to do it. But you are right Indiana, you dont always get a rank a favour, the higher the person that favours you is the closer it brings you to the next rank and it gets harder to raise ranks the higher you get.

Ah...so nice to know that people still know how to lie, cheat and manipulate to get what they want...Loyalty is SO overrated.
