The sentinels have NEVER been sane.  They weren't when I was first in the realms, decades of (aetolian) years ago.  They've just...always been insane.  It's part of being a sentinel, to be insane.
Poted by Indiana on 14 Jul 2005 07:24 -
Yeah, and when you think the Paladins are supposed to be brothers with Sentinels .. meh.
Poted by Arota on 14 Jul 2005 21:18 -
Well, see, the way I see it, the Infernals got the bad genes in the family, the sentinels got the crazy genes, and the Paladins are somewhere inbetween, making them more normal than the other two, but since they're from the same family, they're still rather demented.  Just not as bad.
Poted by Sarkis on 16 Jul 2005 12:13 -
Monks take all types, but under thier calm, cool exteriors lay the minds of children, mad men, and maniacs. Oh, and the very occasioanal Sarkis.

the very occasioanal Sarkis.

That remark is scary in the fact that it implies that there's more than one of you. *shudder*

Hey, if you had to spend all your time in the forest, you'd be a bit off, too.

(Cubs): Reecillia says, "It's a dirogatory remark."

(Cubs): Syliana says, "A very annoying person."

(Cubs): Reecillia says, "To call someone a git is insultive."

(Cubs): Colt says, "Like I call my sister a git."

Some of the interesting conversations we have on the Sentaari one are not even with in the realm of...well, here's an example.

We were teasing Lahlah about being old, and I was hitting her hard with some burns, when...

(Sentaari): Lahlah says, "Sarkis, you're poking the wrong kitty."

I will say now, what my reply was got me a lot of interesting tells from a lot of monks...
Poted by Arota on 25 Jul 2005 20:16 -
Heh, yeah.  Guild channels can get the most amusing things on them...mostly because, unlike city or shouts, there's no one telling people to shut up.  They'll ask you to tone it down a bit, but I have yet to be told on a guild channel to shut up. Which is good or bad, depending on how you look at it.

Flapping her wings madly, Keros launches herself skyward.

Flapping your wings madly, you launch yourself skyward.

Yreogh comes flying up to you, flapping madly to keep herself above the ground.

You jump into the air and perform an impressive backflip.

Yreogh suddenly grabs you and swoops with you across the room, tangoing with unearthly grace.

Keros jumps high into the air and performs an impressive backflip.

Keros soars down towards the ground.

You soar back to the ground, landing clumsily.

Yreogh comes in for a clumsy landing.

Wooty-woot for synchronized launching, soon to become the favorite pastime of forestals everywhere.

Poted by Jahara on 24 Aug 2005 20:42 - WHEEE!!
What's really funny, is that earlier this month, he had a novice hitting on him. I had a stitch in my side from laughing so much. It was hilarious.

I met Sasky as a novice.

I'm done.
Poted by Sarkis on 25 Aug 2005 00:05 -
*pet Avian* I met you as a Novice, too. And Jahara.,..and Hatake...quite a few people, really. Orbrac, ...bleh...I'm old, and have too good a memory.
Poted by Arota on 25 Aug 2005 00:53 -
I knew Cuchulainn as a novice!  He was actually my...brother?  Cousin?  Or maybe nephew...bleh, he was related to me somehow.  If I asked Lucivar, I could probably get the Yaslana name back, actually...but I don't really want it.
Poted by Sarkis on 25 Aug 2005 06:32 -
Er...right...well, at least you aren't as old as Terant...he remembers all sorts of old people.

Anyone here actually met Kaahl, the other of the Tyre brothers?

Cuz yeah, he was my first mentor ever way back when I first started running around the realms.

That's a question, I'm afraid, that not even Varian has an answer to. It just is.
Poted by Sarkis on 01 Sep 2005 13:01 -
I must point out, that line Alkasier said is an old old old old one. As to why trhe Sentinels are insane...well...they spend a lot of time in the sun, running around...they sniff herbs...they may be inbred....the whole lot of them are almost as fanatical as any Lummie... wow, it just keeps adding up, doesn't it?
Poted by Yreogh on 01 Sep 2005 15:02 -
We're not all fanatical.  In fact, I'd say most of us aren't.
And if someone mocked your way of life and your life's purpose the way Wedric is mocking ours, and you couldn't do anything about it, you'd be foaming at the mouth, too.
Poted by Sarkis on 02 Sep 2005 03:38 -
Bah, how aren't you people fantical?
Poted by Yreogh on 02 Sep 2005 18:52 -
You've got to prove we are.  It's hard to run defense without knowing what I'm defending against.

Since when does having a purpose equal fanaticism.  Protecting the Rhythm is the purpose of the guild.  Also, having a religion doesn't mean you're fanatical.  Passionate doesn't equal fanatical.

If we were truly fanatical, we'd be burning cities.  We'd be out there making sure nobody even has a chance to do harm nature, assuming guilt before even action.

Poted by Sarkis on 03 Sep 2005 04:18 -
No, Id din't say you were Luminaries, did I? I said almsot as bad as... Frankly, I'd actually chuckle to see a Sentinel kill soem because they belonged to a city.
And it's not having purpose, it's hwo you go about it..Passion often leads to fanatical actions...the line is very, very thin.
Poted by Yreogh on 03 Sep 2005 14:09 -

No, the line isn't.  And what have we done that fanatical lately?

Simple answer to that question.

Killed Wedric
Poted by Yreogh on 03 Sep 2005 14:27 -
That's not fanatical, that's pure sensibility.
And revenge.  That bastard  took my head off my shoulders!
Poted by Hatake on 03 Sep 2005 14:29 -

You say we are fanatical because we defend the Rhythm??? Well if we are fanatical in your eyes. Also take a look at yourself and your guild. You are always the one talking about balance here and balance that and that can't live without that cause it wouldn't be balanced. Sarkis your are a fanatical as well then.
Poted by Sarkis on 03 Sep 2005 14:30 -
Er...hug ...uh...*eyeshift* Shhhh....I can hear the crazy...

Anyway, I didn't mean to imply your fanatism in a negative way..even though I DID compare it to Lummies. Which was a mistake, since Forestals don't go set a city or two aflame when they feel angry... Still, I offered my positions. There are some who have implied that on a whole, cities are a great scourage on nature, and will not endure time, and that they are contrary to nature itself. Tell me if that sort of narrow thought is not fanatical. It doesn't allow for deviation or any other view point to have validity, because those who hold must be right, because they are the ones who see it, and no one else does. Or...at least, that is the impression I have been give time and again. And frankly, it seems few people are willing to fix that, if it's wrong...instead, they try to av oid answering the questions or accusations put before thme, and allow the fanatics to answer int hier stead, because at least they have the strength to do so.

Do I honestly think sentinels are fanatical? No, not in the same way you may see the term. There are some, however, that are, and give your guild a bad wrap among others.
Of course you can say that you could care less how they think of you..but then that makes getting along with the people that much harder, and also waht ever your own, real views seem that much less worth making clear, sinc eit seems those who hold them will not stand up for them. Just because you stand up, doesn't mean you tread on feet, or should tread on feet. If you did...well...we know groups who hold the I'm right, your wrong view so absolutely, don't we?
Poted by Yreogh on 03 Sep 2005 14:35 -
Sarkis, you go calling all of us fanatical, then backpedal like that?
There are fantics in almost any group of people.  It happens.  You can't go and accuse the entire group of fanaticism Irruel said he wouldn't mind seeing the cities destroyed.
Poted by Sarkis on 03 Sep 2005 15:10 -
Exactly what I said...and as to the thing about Balance, and the Sentaari? indeed, there are those who are down right depraved about it....unlike other guilds though, the Sentaari honestly have no central doctrine that tells them waht balance is or is not, nor hwo to best affect it, or even to teach it or not. A lot more is left to open an individual to understand, or choose to believe, in soem ways than other guilds.  Alos, as I pointed out, dear Hatake, there is a difference between being a fantic, and being passionate...and the line between the two is very, very, very thin. One is blind, and allows no other views, the other is a little more, shall we say...open to reason, but only to an extent. I'm not sure really, hwo people view the Sentaari, though I am interested in knowing hwo they see us. Frankly, I think we very rarely provide the same sort of united front most other guilds strive for. Of course, that may be because I'm in the guild, and know the inner workings of it, and it's people.

As to the supposed backpedaling...

I meant the comment as more a poke in the ribs, than a punch in the face. If you took it the wrong way...well... That's what choice is all about, no?
If I was being vehement in your eyes, I apologize. However, continuing along these lines will bring out a far more unpleasent side of my person. I did not mean to point and scream, but I can do that too, like any good fanatic.
Poted by Yreogh on 03 Sep 2005 19:22 -
I'm sorry.  I'm just kinda tired lately.  I overreacted.
It is nice to see yourself through the eyes of others everyonce in a while.
Do we really come across as fanatics?
Poted by Sarkis on 04 Sep 2005 20:16 -
Occasianly. But in a espeicaly bad way...now..Lumies and Daru come off as down right pyschotic. Indorani come off across as...pseudo evil people. sure, they claim to be evil, thne get married, have kids, get snuggly, and stuff, and not once do they wonder if they really are all that evil inside. Infernals are a guild I stopped payign attention to a loooong time ago. Cabalists seem sorta lacking without Ezrax, and Syssin are just...there... Magi soemtiems come across as self-interested and greedy, but maybe that's because Aybara is a pain at times. Paladins seem noble, and even smart, at times. Senti's have always sturck me as mildly insane, like...squirrels.  Druids come across as aloof, arrogant, and self centered... Sentaari...it seems peopel are nto always sure what to make of us. We're really odd, since we have no unifying ideals we all share, really, all of us have different, soemtimes radiaclly different views on the three tenets.  I suppose peopel see us as seperated, and aloof, nto really marching in step with anything in particular.

As to cities...Ashtan is...changing, so..I dunno waht I can say, other than they need bridges, and street clean ers. Enorian...Oi, I see it as arrogant, and mindlessly fanatical at times. Bloodloch recently has bene under my radar, but I amy not knwo waht there are up to. Spinesreach seems...just weird to me, but not terribly horrible in anyway...And that leaves Duiran, which i refrain from commenting on, short of saying they may be the stewards of nature, but they sure as hell don't know how to generate sympathy for thier cause.

I don't generally deal with enough people from other guilds to get a solid impression of them.  Most of the non-Sentinel folk I know are family, so I don't think of them as part of the guild, I think of them as a people.

Aaaand, we do have squirrel morph, so that may explain a few things.

Now, the true question is, do the guilds attract people with that characteristic or quality, or do they make them that way?  We get cubs who are reasonable and polite at the beginning, but I guess the exposure to the silliness breaks down that armor.

Also, we appear to breed ours.

Personally I believe it is the mentors who mould their proteges into full guild members... So if you're all -pouncesnugglesquee!- with them they're likely to grow about it. Of course the rest of the guild may have an effect on this too. But not anymore so than the mentor, I'd say...
Poted by Yreogh on 05 Sep 2005 03:43 -
The Yreogh is anti-snuggling on principle.
I just greet my guildmates enthusiastically, for the most part.  There are folks I don't pounce.
Cilsen, cause he doesn't like to be touched.
Rhaea, cause she's our GM.  Unless she pounces first.
And Nighty, because I don't really know him.

I try to introduce my cubs to folk who I think will be a positive influence.  Easiest way to do this is to send them to someone else when I don't know an answer.  Like Puck.  Puck is definitely ranger-type material.  When he asks a question about combat, I usually don't know the answer.  Often, I'll just ask on GT, but sometimes I send them to more combat-oriented folk for answers, instead.
