Japanese swords look cool, but they don't function as well. With a katana, you can slash at me once, then you hafta bring your sword back up.

With a double-edged sword, I can slash at you, then backhand you.

Double edged swords also tend to be heavy so when you're having to change your momentum to backhand someone they'll probably be able to carry through with their momentum and get you a good 4 or 5 times.

Poor Avian, I've trained for years learning my weapons.

This includes some profceincy with a Tai Chi sword. The fact of the matter is, Japanese swords manship is about control, and accuracy, power, and speed. Msot duels end within 1o strokes, and usally less than 5. With Iaido, I can draw my sword, and make 2 cuts that will have you very dead, befor eyou can react, probably. If you do, it will end ina mutal slaying, which by the time of the Meiji period, many duels ended in, because of the high level of skill many duelesy achieved with thier reactions . Chinises swordsmanship follows similar ideals, but achieves them with a different style of combat, preffering more complex arm movements, and the posibilty of a more drawn out battle. Of cours,e one may alkso include braod sword fighting, as well as other swords, or Dha, or Kali, or Moo Duk Kwan, but the fact remains that ther eis no real inheirent advantage of one weapon over another in th ehands of a skill praticioner. Not everyone has a good understanding of how most, if any weapons are used, especially agianst other styles, or cultures.

Let me tell you this Sarkis is right. I'm not saying I've mastered the arts of fighting with my swords. But I'm damn good at it. And I have to be. Since I will most likely will finish my last exam in Hung Gar this month and get my last belt in Long Hu Men last month. And I've been doing Chen style Tai Chi now for several years.

I can assure you. If I would have to fight medieval the best medieval sword fighter that I would be able to kill them all one for one. No swords are as fast and more lethal than a katana or any other asian sword. The double edged swords are bigger, heavier. The would not even be able to draw their swords cause they would be dead. A katana give you way more control over your sword. It's sharp as hell and doesn't weigh at all. It's a perfect killing weapon. I would even be able to kill someone who would try to shoot me and has to draw his gun.

I've been training in asian combat styles since I've been 6 and that also means learning how to use weapons
