Like with over 5 years of studying armor and it's peices, history, and components. What it did was protect the upper chest, like the collarbone. Generally, the peice may have risen about a half inch to an inch over the neck, but it's purpose was to protect the upper chest, and cover the weakeness of the cuirass or breastplate in that area. Also, define hand to hand fighting, all I need is a 3 inch twig, and I can kill you easily. Not a thick twig either. | ||

Hitting them will stun a person long enough I can damage their neck or head severly enough to kill or permenately incapacitate them. Thing is, a twig make hitting them more precise and effective, especialy since it's harder to see in one's hands or to wrench out of my hand and in the tussel and confusion many feel at close range fighting gives me a better chance in winning. Any questions? | ||

This is in the case of a hand to hand fight with soemone who has at least a basic idea of what to do. Otherwise I'd just knock you out with a nice hard kick or punch, since it seems most people have trouble understanding basics of combat. | ||
