My Fieldplates

Poted by Indiana on 12 Jul 2005 17:20 - My Fieldplates
Since I am trans forging (yeah, that means you can bug me to forge ya stuff), I can now forge fullplates .. I already have a crappy one, so I will most likely have at least one more ... and since I can make a custom description for them .. I need some descriptions for them.

So I come to my lovely (and creative) family to design some fullplates for me ... of course I will repay you for this (if forging things was not enough). Here is AB FORGING FULLPLATE in case it might help ..

Full plate armour is considered a rather special item in Aetolia, and is strictly limited to use by those with an extremely high aptitude for forging. It is _very_ expensive, and takes an extremely long time to forge (and you will always want to forge it to its maximum). However, for this, you will be able to speak to a God and have your armour's description customized, so that when people look at you, they might see, for instance, Hansel is wearing a suit of blackened armour, instead of Hansel is wearing a suit of shimmering full-plate.

If you need some theme as well .. one should be a very shiny silvery one, another idea for one with Siroccian theme ... gargantuan ant, wolverines, treesnakes, another idea would be for a very white one, eventually with a falcon - high contrast one ... and I could come up with other ideas as well I guess.

one of a deep gray steel that shimmers slightly blue. With gold edging, and holy runes?

... I guess that will do as well ...

Whatever you do, don't make it blindingly-shoot-me-now white.  Like our uniform.  Because there's nothing like making yourself a target.  You could make one suit with a red rose theme, for family-type stuff, and another with a guild/city/order type theme?  I dunno.  I'm still debating about the design for my fieldplate when I eventually...years down the road...make it.

Fullplate, Arota, it's fullplate ...
Poted by Asilient on 14 Jul 2005 08:52 -
Ummmm... Indi, you started this thread, right?

-Ponts at the thread title-

Now I don't think you're one to be talking about details when you yourself got it wrong now, are ya?
Poted by Indiana on 14 Jul 2005 14:28 -
Oh drat ..   Now ya tell me, Asi?
Poted by Arota on 14 Jul 2005 21:15 -
bleh, by fieldplate, I mean full plate.  You shoulda guessed that.  Because...yeah.  It's kinda obvious which one I was talking about.
Poted by Asilient on 14 Jul 2005 23:24 -
You should've just said you were going off the thread title.
Poted by Sarkis on 16 Jul 2005 12:11 -
Heh heh heh ...sometimes, I'm glad I'm a monk, and can only wear leather armor. Othertimes...you need a big hunk of pointy metal sticks and slabs of steel to help you out. *eyeshift*

A blue steel suit of fullplate armor

This suit of armor is made of bluish steel, tempered and forged in an extreme heat to maximize its resistance to damage. The metal is finished with a bright polish, making it shine like glass, catching and amplifying any light that caresses it. Covering the wearer from neck to toe, this fullplate is composed of thick plates of metal bound together with leather strips, hinged so as not to restrict movement. Engraved on the right shoulder plate is a perfect circle. Superimposed on this circle is a longsword, with a slender rose entwined around it. Flanking the sword are two angels, forming the Bloodrose crest.

Just... off the top of my head.
Poted by Indiana on 15 Aug 2005 04:40 -
Oi! I can't believe I actually got a description!   A quite nice one too.
Thanks, Avi, I like it so far .. let's see how to get that on my fullplate now ..

Avioan, Heavey armor is not only heald to gether by leather, but joints, pieces of chainmail, and soemwhat complex pivoting thingies. I should know, I've built a suit of armor...anyway..I'm considering building myself a suit of Japanese armor soon. Hmmmmm...
Poted by Avian on 15 Aug 2005 22:46 -
Okay fine.

A suit of Sarkis-made fullplate

This armor is a bit shoddy, made of awkwardly forged metal. Bits of fur and leather can be seen clinging to the plates, and each joint is a disarrayed mess of chainmail, leather and other unidentifiable things. Scrawled clumsily across the front in a failed attempt at elegant calligraphy are the words 'I am not cute.'
Poted by Sarkis on 16 Aug 2005 04:15 -
*sics the armor wolveriens on Avian* *listens to the screams as Avian is consumed* Poor little bastard...he had it coming though.
Poted by Avian on 16 Aug 2005 04:30 -
One of these days I'm gonna spar you in wolverine morph and beat you down.
Poted by Arota on 16 Aug 2005 13:56 -
Avian...Sarkis is right. It's not all over the place, but only in one or two places where chainmail and 'complex pivoting thingies' are needed because leather is too fragile or not protective enough.  I've looked at a suit of full plate and seen it.

FINE!

An intricate suit of fullplate armor

Your eyes are dazzled by the sheer complexity of this suit of armor. Instead of large plates, this armor is made up of thousands of little bits of metal, each cut into a unique shape, creating a mosaic-like effect. Inlaid into the metal are golden threads, forming the words 'Sir Indiana Bloodrose' in beautiful flowing script. Between the creases of each plate, you can see bits of chainmail, and complex joint mechanisms whose workings you can only guess at.

IS THAT BETTER, CRITICS?!

Poted by Sarkis on 17 Aug 2005 04:54 -
No, never.

It's awesome, Avian.  Don't be mad, we only wanted to help! *sniffle*  Guess that's a no to getting help designing my Fullplate, hm? *ponder* Eh, I'll probably want to design it myself, anyways.

You're trans forging?

A sleek Atavian suit of fullplate

This suit of armor has clearly been designed for the avian fighter. Hugging close to the body, it is made of broad strips of silvery metal, guaranteeing absolute protection from all angles, yet keeping it flexible enough to bend with the warrior's movements. On the back, two slits have been cut into the metal to allow Atavian wings to emerge. Engraved down the right leg is the word 'Arcadia' in bold black calligraphy.

A dark suit of full plate armor

This magnificeint suit of armor is made of a dark bluish steel that looks exceedingly strong. The heavey curiass is ribbed to absorb the impact of even the heaviest of blows. Underneath it lays a finely crafted shirt of chain mail, and a matching coif for the head. The shoulders are protected by multi-sectional plates joined such that they offer a great amount of mobility, while not hindering thier protective purpose. Strong gauntlets encase the forearms, and are also ribbed. The fingers are each individualy movable, made with the greatest of skill, and care.  The helmet is a sleek, visored sallet with a slight ridge on top, and mountings for some minor ornaments The left arm shoulder plate looks like a small shield, and on it is emblazoned a crest of a rose, with a dove hovering over it. The hips of the wearer are protected by multi-sectioned plates that allow the user to shift thier weight, or raise thier legs to sit, or ride on a mount. The thighs are wrapped in a strong sheet of steel, fashioned to allow maximum mobility and protection the shins and calfs are protected by ribbed greaves.

And... who is going to wear that...?
Poted by Indiana on 18 Aug 2005 05:04 -
Ok, besides the fact that your grammar sure needs some changes, that fullplate might be nice for an Infernal .. but I'm not wearing that .. besides, that looks ... heavy.
Poted by Arota on 18 Aug 2005 13:18 -
OOO!  Pretty, Sarkis! *shiftyeyes* Honest, I'm not a goth at heart! *hides*

You're trans forging?

Well, I got a little bored just wandering around the continent thinking, so I figured I'd finally learn it. (Actually haven't learned any of it yet, but I have the lessons to trans it when I return...which means I'll be sitting at Syvelium for the first few days of my return)
Poted by Sarkis on 18 Aug 2005 13:22 -
You people...you need to realize some basics of physics...one...if you are going to clad yourself in plates of steel...it is going to be extremely heavy...two...dark steel, not burnt blackened armor of doom. I can do that too, you know. Three, Avian, you aren't, obviously, but your armor is...unrealistic. Four...ARGGGHHHHHHH. Five just because it's dark does not mean it is evil, or meant to be evil in any way. Six? There is no bloody six.

*wanders off muttering to himself*

Here are some URLs you should look at before you design ANY armor, just to know what real armor looks like. *rant* *twitch*

A nice suit of...you guessed it, fullplate armor. Very straight forward, and function in it's design, too. Not like Parade armor at all.

I really do suggest looking at these.

Sarkis, sarkis, sarkis...since when does physics have anything to do with Aetolia?  Have you LOOKED at some of the Divine's shrines recently?  Or the Magi GH?  And, well, to be brutally honest, humanoids with wings isn't really physically possible.

And on that note...pretty armor! *drooltwitch*
Poted by Sarkis on 18 Aug 2005 18:02 -
I have to draw the bloodly line somewhere! And slabs of steel is it! OI! Divine are magical, steel is just plain bloody steel!
Poted by Arota on 18 Aug 2005 18:06 -
Yeah, but it's being forged by people with links to divine or necromantic magic, meaning that it could be magical, too!

And yeah, I'm just arguing for the sake of pointing out the flaws in your logic.  I know completely what you mean. *hum*
Poted by Sarkis on 18 Aug 2005 18:09 -
Arota, as far as I know, you do not pour magic into the forging prosess. Mainly because Magi would go into coniptions att he thought of anyone but them being able to enchance something magically.
Poted by Avian on 18 Aug 2005 22:22 -
Erm.

You can say whatever, but fullplate > leather.
Poted by Sarkis on 19 Aug 2005 01:32 -
And say what you may,Avian, we all know this equation to be timeless in it's irrefuteble, undeniable, and fairly painfull truth:

Wolverines > Avian
Poted by Arota on 19 Aug 2005 19:22 -
Alrighty.  Enough with the wolverines, Sarkis, or at least enough with the comments on Avian's armor designs.  It doesn't need to be perfect...no one's going to see the description unless Indy shows it off, anyways.

RESURRECT!  *poof*  *topic is brought back to life*

I'm finally customizing my full plate...wanted your guys' opinion on it:

This custom-crafted armor has been expertly made to be both functional and beautiful - each piece of the suit is of dark grey steel, almost black in color, and has been edged with blood-red enamel.  The armor itself is composed of strips of steel which hug close to the body.  Two slits have been carefully crafted into the back of the armor, allowing an Atavian's wings to emerge, and yet not weakening the armor in the least.  The helm for the armor is a simple affair, with no decoration or unnecessary molding as it curves over the back of the head.  A movable faceplate can either sit on top of the helm or over the face of the wearer.  Underneath the dark grey and red plate mail can be seen a bright silver-coloured chain shirt, and underneath that, blood-red quilted padding.

*throws arms in the air and shouts something indecipherable, but obscene sounding*

Actually...eh...I dunno what to say. I'm tired right now.
Poted by Arota on 04 Oct 2006 17:54 -
Bah, you're no help.
Poted by Avian on 05 Oct 2006 15:17 -
Looks cool. How do you craft slits though?
Poted by Arota on 05 Oct 2006 15:35 -
Dunno.  I stole that from your design a couple pages back.  I imagine you'd alter the angles of the strips of steel, or attatch them to some chainmail around the edge of the slit.  Something like that...

ive worn fullplate... you dont move in it... you hobble...
