Other Classes

Poted by Avian on 15 Aug 2005 04:59 - Other Classes
Just something I was thinking about...

If you could be any other class, what would it be, and why?

Personally, I'd pick Sentaari.

Regeneration + KaiBoost + Split mind + Vitality + KaiHeal + irid moss + health + high mana + high health = really hard to kill.

Seriously, I'd kill to have split mind and regeneration alone right now. It's sickeningly awesome.

Plus you get stuff like mind crush, mind hallucinate, KaiChoke, KaiCrush, KaiEnfeeble, and KaiDeliverance. KaiNet is nice too.

And... well Tekura is massively powerful. The damage dealt from that is insane.

Roshak's combos hit me for 1.2k. That's as a Raja. In Tiger stance, he gets a break every combo, almost. That's pains.

Now imagine Xoran combos. Can you say ow?

Yeah... discuss.

Personally I'm not a big fan of the monks. I almost became a Sentaari back when I was about 26. I wasn't liking the way the Paladins were going and one knight who felt the exact same as me reasoned that there is something we can do and we'd stay.

Right now there's no other guild for me but the Paladins, but if I really had to choose it would be Sentinels. And not for combat ability or anything like that...
Poted by Indiana on 15 Aug 2005 07:36 -
Monks can do lots of damage indeed and they have lots of skills to heal/reduce damage. The problem is they (as many other classes) need to trans at least 2-3 skills to be effective at least. Yes, they can be decent for bashing let's say and low level combat without putting too many lessons into it, but they need lots of credits for medium and high level combat.
If I were to choose a new class I'd choose sentinels .. the skills they have are ... well, almost as overpowered as luminaries .. simply the fact they have nightsight and fluidswim (not to say fly) at lowest levels (which as a Knight for example you have to put about 200 credits into survival and vision to get), good for bashing, lots of ents and traps so can be very effective as fighting as well .. I'd say they have some of the best skills around.
Poted by Sarkis on 15 Aug 2005 12:38 -
I love being a monk, I cannot see myself as anything else...it IS true what Indi says, to be even minorly effective, you have to trans at LEAST Tekura, and you better TRans Telepathy, and Kaido as well. Kaido, before telepathy, I think. Anyway... I cannot imagine me not beinga monk, and I have never considered leaving my guild. Anyway, what other guild could deal with me?
Poted by Indiana on 15 Aug 2005 12:39 -
Anyway, what other guild could deal with me?

Heh, you said it
Poted by Avian on 16 Aug 2005 03:02 -
Sentinels are sickeningly awesome.

But really, you don't hafta be trans Tekura anymore. With the new shift, you only hafta be Bronze Belt to have Scorpion. With the speed Scorpion gives you, you don't need to hit a lot.

Besides, you monks get more crits than me.

And Indi...

FluidSwim is in exactly one morph. Duck. Do you really think that you'll spend ANY time in Duck morph?

And anyway, you could always get an arrow of that... vertigo venom and zapow!

Oh, and outside of Sentaari, I'd go vampire.

Well...

I would go vampire if my entire family wouldn't hunt me down.

*rue*

Or Lumi. Lumis are cool.
Poted by Arota on 16 Aug 2005 13:54 -
Heh.  I'm with Asili in the 'no class for me but pallys right now'.  I always thought Magi were cool, though - as were the forestal classes.  If I went anywhere, it would probably be to one of them.  I'd never go vampire, even though they're actually turning sort of cool with all the new announcements, because there's a WAY overdone cliche of unsatisfied pallys turning vampire.  Yep, refusing to follow the norm, that's me...
Poted by Indiana on 16 Aug 2005 14:54 -

I am fairly sure you're wrong with this one. When you are in wyvern form don't tell me you take damage from swimming, also, I am not sure if this is a bug or that's how it's supposed to be, but  defences remain after you morphed into another form (or so I've been told) .. but you should be the one testing, not me .. yet the thing is I've never seen a sentinel drown so far.

I did. I was highly amuzed when I got the person rezzed.

Only some of the defences remain, they are supposed to work that way from what i heard: vitality, nightsight, resistance... a few others probably.  I have no idea if we have fluidswim in any other morph besides duck, why use it when you can use swordfish and don't have to bother to swim <direction>?   Metamorphosis is a really good skillset, you get everything you need to survive.

And umm, besides Sentinels, i really like Monks.

...how long ago was this, Asili? *looks about and tries to hide as she recalls a forestal alt she had quite awhile ago that...erm...had interesting adventures with the Under King*
Poted by Asilient on 17 Aug 2005 16:01 -
I can't remember... I think it was somewhere between me being 26-33 Can't be certain, though.
Poted by Arota on 17 Aug 2005 16:12 -
Hrm...Can't remember when I had my alt, or even what the name was, so, I guess we'll never know.  All I know is that she died.  A lot.  People got tired of rezzing me.  I think a few more times and one of the gods might have popped up as the underking when she died and went 'You AGAIN?'
Poted by Avian on 17 Aug 2005 19:45 -
Dude... I'd love it if FluidSwim remained...

I'd love it more if reflexes remained
Poted by Yreogh on 18 Aug 2005 05:31 -

That implies there are normal Sents.
Poted by Yreogh on 18 Aug 2005 05:32 -
Fluidswim doesn't remain.  Promise.
Also, synchronized launching alone justifies the existance of Duck morph.  Ask Hatrack.

Notice the 'really' in there, implying that it was a sentinel that was more weird that the normally weird sentinels?

I suppose it's all relative.
Poted by Davram on 18 Aug 2005 23:31 -
I am a zealot and thats fine for me for combat purposes however, I dont particulary like being a rouge and I really hate the Daru... though being a grook cabby would be awesome, you would make a awesome tank. Link, number shields, putrefaction, vigour, sapience, soulcage, parry if you have got it, arctar and many other domination minions. If you need you can blackwind, return, pathfinder I mean honestly, you have recognition, oneness for inflictions and it is impossible to kill a grook cabalist with damage if they are trans numerology. Oh add undead onto that and you have damage resistance aswell. Now artis *grin* just think about it with dragon scale armour and one of those new shields.

But... with that many credits, any class could be awesome.

Dunno, if I was a Cabal, I'd go around tweaking everyone for the hell of it.

That's one reason why I've stayed far away from any mind-affecting class...I would have far too much fun with it and end up being kicked out of whatever guild for misbehaviour.

One word for you. GR3

Oo;;;;

I'm GR2.  I'm still working on GR3
Poted by Sarkis on 21 Aug 2005 16:40 -
Damnit, it's almost impossible to get GR3 in the Sentaari, I think. I've doen hours of hard work for the guild, only one guildfavor from it. *mutter* Doesn't mean I'm going to give up, though.
Poted by Arota on 21 Aug 2005 18:06 -
I keep getting GFs...They're just from people like Kiyotan, whose GFs really don't do anything to your GR.  I need, like...Koron or a past GM to GF me so I can go up a GR.
Poted by Yreogh on 21 Aug 2005 18:39 -
I've honestly given up on getting higher than GR2, really.  I've accepted that it'll never happen.
Poted by Davram on 22 Aug 2005 00:07 -
OOC friend of mine got gr4 in the cabalists at 18 years of age (IC). Apparently its not that hard.
Poted by Yreogh on 22 Aug 2005 00:18 -
Since GR comes from your peers, if you don't spend lots of time with guildmates, it's hard to come by.
As one of the few active Novice Aides in the Sentinels, I spend most of my time with cubs.  Doing intros, walking tests, giving classes, etc.  And now that I'm a mentor, I spend more time with my cubs.  I got one because I said something clever and touching and meaningful to someone, I don't remember what I said, but I got GF'ed for it.

And when I did a treasure hunt for our cubs, I got GF'd for running a moral event while the Sec of Moral was gone.  The next year, however,  I did the same thing, only on a broader scope.  The first one I did was only in Ithmia, whereas the second was over most of Sapience.  A couple of novices told me they had a lot of fun.  That was my reward, and that made it worth doing.
Bah, enough of my ranting.
Poted by Indiana on 22 Aug 2005 04:52 -
Oh, heck, I don't know how it is for other guilds, but for Paladins it is hard as hell to gain any GF, and if you get those, they are from low GR people. I think I got like 10 GFs so far and I'm still GR4 .. and it seems forging for the guild shop it is not considered as helping the guild as much as winning every spar you get *snicker*.
Poted by Asilient on 22 Aug 2005 09:44 -
I think in all of the time I've been around I've had four GFs. And when I push myself really hard for the guild, or am really trying to work something out for the guild... Sometimes it seems like the guild isn't actually supporting your actions.

And yeah, it is hard as hell to get Gfs. I personally think it's because all of our secretaries and people able to GF aren't too aware of what's going on around them because they do their work then leave. Or say nothing at all... All I doo is make suggestions for Guildfavours to anyone who can, if I've witnessed something I deem worth a GF I'll ask the person is given it.

So it's not entirely the fault of those who can GF, but also those who are observant and have a hand in the lives of other guild members.
Poted by Arota on 22 Aug 2005 14:02 -
Nah, the reason the Paladins don't hand out GFs is they're sick and tired of people gaining class and then quitting the guild.  Of course, they don't stop to think that that might have something to do with a problem in the guild and maybe they should do something to fix it. *sigh*

Yeah, last time I got GFed was from Kiyotan for...something silly.  That was following another GF from him, the month before, for trying to run a tournament. (which fell through...stupid pallys not participating)

I know a long time ago, pallys weren't so hard about giving out their GFs.  In fact, several people (me included) were asked to stop GFing for silly reasons like 'blah is a good paladin who has followed the ideals of the guild all their life' etc. etc.  Because that was considered a silly reason.  I don't mean that in a bad way...it's just, every single day, the guild logs had one or more GF.  It was...nice.

Now, the only guild that's that loose with it's GFs is the Magi.  And that's because, if you leave their guild, two of your skills are suddenly useless. *sigh*

I wish guilds would stop being paranoid about people using them for class and then quitting.  You really can't prevent such a thing, after all.  The guild leaders just need to view it as a challenge that they need to overcome, by making the guild attractive enough that no one's going to leave...or just adopting all the new people into their families so they feel obliged to stay, in the case of the Sentinels. *cough*
Poted by Sarkis on 22 Aug 2005 18:45 -
Ditto.
Poted by Yreogh on 22 Aug 2005 22:37 -
I have nothing else to say that isn't a gripe.
Poted by Davram on 22 Aug 2005 23:24 -
I believe the way the Cabalists work is you get 1gf per sect rank, one for completing probates, one for holding a lecture or event/quiz/contest etc. one for winning a event/quiz/contest, one for doing alot on a project, 2 for completing a project, umm what else was I told. You get to GR5 when you become a secretary, thats the same in all guilds really, oh and you get one for having a book of yours placed in the guild library. Think thats all of it. I have never been a cabalist but I am told that it can be really hard or really easy depending on who your friends are and how much extra work you do when your not asked to do it. But you are right Indiana, you dont always get a rank a favour, the higher the person that favours you is the closer it brings you to the next rank and it gets harder to raise ranks the higher you get.
Poted by Davram on 22 Aug 2005 23:26 -
Oh and Arota, I used the Daru and left them.

Chivalry... DSL... mmm... cleave...

If you lie and cheat to win, you still win. It's the syssin way.

And no, I'm not a syssin, but I have a syssin alt.
Poted by Yreogh on 23 Aug 2005 07:55 -
Bah.  Why spend all that time and then leave?  I'm only bothered by my GR2 when I'm already down and depressed.  When I feel like I'm the Little Sentinel who can't.  Otherwise, I'm too busy to think about it.
Poted by Sarkis on 23 Aug 2005 13:13 -
My problem is with when people do something that really doesn't coincide with thier beliefs, just to gain one thing. It's...so bloody stupid. I kick myself for even fighting in the Arena, but even I admit combat is sometimes neccesary. However...people who play along, go through the motions, and pay lip service, just so they can gain class, and leave, disgust me. All they do is whore themselves for some percieved amount of power, for what end?

In the end, all they get is get outcast, and shunned, ignored, and forgotten. They can lose thier friends over it, or be hunted down. I really don't understand how anyone can live with that sort of sloppy thinking.
Poted by Davram on 25 Aug 2005 23:20 -
Well for one I was in the Daru 18 years so I did not exactly lie, cheat and manipulate my way to guild rank 3. I had had class for years and I did love the Daru for many years before I started resenting them. Anyway, leaving them was entirely in my rp. I am a pro forests, I am in Duiran and I am in Haern's order. Haern is not really a approved Diety in the Daru, none but Auresae are and I am in his order, not just his initiates. What more Duiran is forbidden. Really I just landmark for necromancy for kicks, I never wanted to get on bad terms with the Daru after I left. I was going to just go quietly without a fuss like Naemanee or my father and leave the guild maybe wanting me back one day but they where convinced I betrayed them. So, I started landmarking.

Poted by Arota on 30 Aug 2005 21:14 -
It really is pointless, but unfortunately it has a few very useful priveleges tied to it.  I can't even vote in guild elections until I get GR3, for example.
Poted by Hatake on 30 Aug 2005 21:16 -
Oooh yes Arota I'm chasing you again.

There's no escaping me
Poted by Davram on 30 Aug 2005 23:55 -
GR3 allows you to read guild projects and logs, if you are on probation or not. You can also contest elections in your city/guild. It has its uses.
Poted by Arota on 31 Aug 2005 13:41 -
Yeah...too many uses.  It's far too valuable.  And the fact that I've been a member in good standing of the guild for over twenty years and can't even look at projects, or vote in referendums?  Gah!  *mutter*  It's annoying, to say the least.
Poted by Yreogh on 31 Aug 2005 20:27 -
I can see guild projects at GR2.  But being able to read the logs would be useful.  I didn't know that's how you got access to them.
Poted by Davram on 01 Sep 2005 04:36 -
Guild projects as in you type projects and it will show you sentinels. Not cubs den. The actual guild projects not just the guild clan ones.
Poted by Yreogh on 01 Sep 2005 14:26 -

Poted by Sarkis on 02 Sep 2005 03:35 -

Poted by Davram on 02 Sep 2005 04:27 -

Hmm, is that a recent impression?  I've been rather strict on the awarding of guildfavours because I don't want people to gain class and leave, loss of access to the MC/enchanting rooms or not.  Magi probates are awarded two guildfavours (by me) for completing aspects of their probation requirements, which still usually isn't enough to get them to GR2.

But yeah, I've heard that the guild might have been a bit loose with guildfavours before my time, but if this is a recent thing then please let me know about it.
Poted by Arota on 04 Sep 2005 19:00 -
Hah, no, that's likely a very old impression, Parhelion.  From way back when I was actually trying to get Magus status in the Magi...I got about three GFs in three consecutive months for doing...hm, stuff that I can barely remember now.  I think one was just for asking a bunch of very particular questions about some aspect of the guild.
Poted by Yreogh on 04 Sep 2005 22:56 -
Encouraging curiousity is always a good thing.  More informed decisions and all.  Wish I'd been smart enough to ask more questions as a novice.  I'd know more about setting traps and other combat issues.  Too bad we don't have a dual mentor program in place.  If my cubs have combat questions, I answer them as best I can, which is usually, "I have no idea.  Let me ask..."  At first, I was embarassed about not knowing.  But recent circumstances have impressed upon me that being embarassed but well-informed now is a much better option than failure later on.

I was little so I didn't really think anything of it but I don't like it now. B) Maybe ever 3 months you'll be lucky and see a GF on the logs. Usually more though. And almost always more if you don't count Parry's stuff. C) I'm GR8, just wanted to show off a bit.

Anyone here know my warcry?  Well, the 'knights' mentioned in it were actually all the male knights in the guild at the time, including the GM, Pjoll, who I retitled without their permission...during landmarking.  Bwahaha.

And I'm also responsible for Zagreus's extreme dislike of the nickname 'Zig-Zag Zagreus'. *eyeshift*

Yeah, I was a terror with suffix and prefix privs.

Hey, I worked hard.
And I've only abused my power once.
Or twice.

I want the chance to abuse my power, though, that way I can get on with taking over the world...

I'm definitely gonna change some titles.  That's about it, I hope.

Eh... I'd title myself weird things, just for kicks.
